Office of the Chaplain
Welcome
The Office of the Chaplain is dedicated to cultivating a spiritually formative environment for the Pepperdine community through Christian practices that involve us in God's activity in the world. Like Dallas Willard, we believe spiritual formation has to do with "those process through which people are inwardly transformed in such a way that the personality and deeds of Jesus Christ naturally flow out from them when and wherever they go," and we strive to facilitate programs and spaces to cultivate such transformation.
Worship
At Pepperdine, we believe that communal worship fundamentally shapes who we are and how we engage with God's activity in the world. Gathering as a community to rejoice, proclaim, reconcile and lament is integral to our identity in the Triune God. The Office of the Chaplain hosts community-wide gatherings of worship including services marking holidays of the church calendar and various prayer services throughout the year.
Training and Equipping
The Pepperdine Community is invited to participate in regular Bible studies and book groups hosted by the Office of the Chaplain. Additionally, our chaplains are available for preaching, devotional messages, teaching workshops catered to departmental needs, and for providing public prayers.
University Chaplain, Sara Barton chairs the University Spiritual Life Committee (USLC). The USLC works to cast a vision for spiritual formation adopted by all five schools of Pepperdine University.
Pastoral Care
In the Office of the Chaplain, our chaplains are available year-round for prayer, confidential pastoral counseling, exploration of scripture, and support for spiritual struggle.
Faith Resources
From a wide variety of books and devotionals for guided learning, to our Pepperdine University Spiritual Life Blogcast, the Office of the Chaplain offers faith resources available to support the Pepperdine community.
